My Foundation + Concealer Routine for Acne-Prone Skin
Firstly, I have combination skin and am very prone to breaking out. I didn't know I was sensitive to coconut-derived, slightly comedogenic, and highly oleic ingredients until this year—full list and details here and here.
I had to re-analyze the ingredients in my beauty stash and search for products that wouldn't break me out. Unfortunately, almost all cream or liquid foundations and concealer contained some type of coconut ingredient or oils that were really oleic. Powder foundations, on the other hand, had an average of 3 total ingredients which is perfect for sensitive skin types but I just wasn't a fan of how cakey it gets throughout the day.
My search for the perfect, non-clogging base makeup with a skin-like finish is finally over when I tried the Vapour Organic Beauty Atmosphere Luminous Foundation and Illusionist Concealer—the ingredients are safe enough for my blemish-prone, sensitive skin! Both are made with a base of sunflower and castor seed oil which luckily worked well with my skin.
Ingredients: Organic Helianthus Annuus (Sunflower) Oil, Organic Cera Alba (Beeswax), Ricinus Communis (Castor) Seed Oil, Silica, Mica, Essential Oils & Natural Fruit Essences, Wildcrafted Boswellia Carteri (Frankincense) Gum, Organic Ocimum Sanctum (Tulsi/Holy Basil) Leaf Extract, Organic Nelumbo Nucifera (Lotus) Leaf Extract [+/-: Titanium Dioxide (CI 77891), Iron Oxides (CI 77491, 77492, 77499)]
Meet my new go-to foundation! Super easy to apply and blends out like a dream. I usually use a dense brush to buff out the foundation. I use the shade 115 which has neutral undertones.
The Luminous Foundation features medium coverage with a weightless feel. As the name implies, it leaves the skin with a natural looking, dewy finish which I'm all about (no cake face here)! Plus, it doesn't accentuate dry patches or fine lines.
Though my t-zone gets oily throughout the day, setting the foundation with a translucent powder helps minimize shine. I find that the foundation lasts 6-8 hours, depending on how oily my skin gets.

I got the concealer in shade 15 which I assumed would be the same color as the foundation in 115 but this concealer is more cool-toned. I noticed that the shades offered cater to neutral and cool-toned complexions rather than warm or olive toned folks like me.
The concealer has light to medium coverage and the same texture and finish as the foundation. I find that I have to layer the concealer to cover up my blemishes and scars. Blending it with a flat concealer brush works the best to preserve the coverage.
When used under the eyes, it doesn't accentuate fine lines but will crease if I don't set it with powder.
Have you tried anything from Vapour Organic Beauty? I've become such a huge fan of their products including their cream blush and highlighter. I even bought a back up of the foundation! If you'd like to see how it works on my actual skin, watch my YouTube video here.

It's great that you're looking for products that are made with ingredients you are familiar with. Better to know what's in the formula instead of having to read through a bunch of weird chemistry terms. I like how I can understand what the ingredients are without having to look up everything. I don't use foundations or concealers but if I ever do, I know where to go! Thanks for sharing :).
ReplyDeleteYeah, it's so much easier to read the ingredients on natural products vs conventional products!
DeleteThanks for reading. :)
Have you tried Vapour Beauty Atmosphere Soft Focus foundation?
ReplyDeleteI haven't tried that yet. It does contain a stearate ingredient which I am a bit concerned about.

Some clothes suit a particular set of people, while they might not look good on others. So fashion is a very individual statement as it is nothing but just a reflection of your personality and thought. Eyelash Extensions
