W3LL PEOPLE Expressionist Liquid Eyeliner Review

W3LL PEOPLE Expressionist Liquid Eyeliner Review black target natural organic makeup hellolindasau

Hi everyone! I'm back with another makeup review—this time I'm sharing my thoughts on the (kind of) new W3LL PEOPLE Expressionist Liquid Eyeliner! Prior to purchasing this, I read reviews and watched videos of what other people thought of the eyeliner and heard very mixed things about it so I decided to give it a try and see what it's all about.

The Expressionist Liquid Eyeliner retails for $17.99 and contains 0.10 oz of product. It's only available in one shade: black. The bottle itself is very small—almost the same size as a lip balm. I bought mine at The Detox Market but it's also available at Target!

Ingredients: Water, Iron Oxides (CI 77499), Brassica Campestris/Aleurites Fordi Oil Copolymer, glyceryl Oleate Citrate, Glycerin, Methyl Dihydroabietate, Sodium Cocoyl Glutamate, Cystine, Laurel Arginine, Bentonite Clay, Lactobacillue Ferment, Caprylyl Glycol, Caprylic/Capric Triglyceride, Xanthum Gum, Caprylhydroxamic, Acid, Aloe Barbadensis Leaf Juice*, Tocopherol (Natural Vitamin E), Rosmarinus Officials (Rosemary) Leaf Extract*, Euphrasia Officianalis Extract*, Leuconostoc Ferment Filtrate. *Certified Organic

Claims
  • Hyper pigmented
  • Smudge-prooof
  • Fade-free
  • Flake-free
  • Water resistant
  • Easy-to-use felt-tip applicator that delivers precision without tugging on the eyes
Background information about my eyes
  • Double eyelids with little amount of space to create a thick line
  • Sensitive
  • Contact lens wearer
  • Extremely oily around the eye area
  • Eyes can get very watery throughout the day (due to the fact that I'm on the computer all day for work)

I usually have a difficult time finding eyeliners that last all day on me even when I prep the eyes with eyeshadow primer. I've used the 100% Pure Long Last Liquid Eye Liner in the past which contains 0.23 oz of product and found that it lasts well but fades after 5 hours or so. I also have the Root Liquid Eyeliner which contains 0.21 oz of product that lasts the longest on my oily eyes (even through a sweaty workout!).

Now let's get into the details of how the W3LL PEOPLE eyeliner performs! First of all, it is extremely pigmented and also very liquidy—a long amount of drying time is required for it to set otherwise it will smudge! Once it dries down, it leaves a matte finish. When I rub the product after it dries, it's very easy for it to smudge. It's also not water resistant.

Unfortunately, I'm unable to create precise lines with the felt-tip brush because it's too thick. It's also a struggle to line my eyes given how small the bottle is! So I have to use a separate eyeliner brush to line the eyes.

Pros
  • Very pigmented
  • Matte finish
Cons
  • Takes too long to dry and set
  • Smudges easily
  • Doesn't last on my oily eyes, even with a good eyeshadow primer + setting powder
  • Felt-tip applicator is too thick
  • Too much product is dispensed on the brush

In conclusion, this eyeliner didn't work out for me—probably because my eyes are too oily and watery. I think if you have dry to normal skin, this would might work out.

Do you have any recommendations for a natural liquid eyeliner that you love? I'd love to hear your recommendations!

  1. I feel you!!! Same problem with me. The applicator is way too thick for the lines I like. Very similar to zuzu luxe that I didn't like. I ended up buying the kat von d and I'm happy with it. I got tired of throwing money away on eco liquid liners. But if you find a good one do update us!

    1. Right?! It's really difficult to find eco liquid liners! I'm testing another eyeliner from Seraphine and my fingers are crossed that it lasts long and applies easily!
